CFOA Cape Fear Classic

The CFOA, presented by National Paintball Supply, presented their seventh tournament of the 2005 season last weekend at Black River Paintball in North Carolina.  The story of the event was the heat, which climbed to extreme levels, with temperatures near 100 and a heat index of 115 degrees for both days of the competition.  Some succumbed to the heat despite the best efforts of the players and staff to remain cool and hydrated; paramedics were required to take some players for further treatment, though all made full recoveries.
 
Vendors on-site for the event included Custom Products, Ground Zero Paintball, Planet Eclipse and Paintball Kingdom.  Battles for top spots in all three of the CFOA's divisions were intense as the season creeps towards its conclusion in September, and all the top contenders were in the fray.  The rookie division was shaken up by a strong Circus Runaways squad from Carolina Paintball Park who stormed through the preliminary round with a near perfect score, pushed through the semifinals and the finals to win the event, ahead of the Nobodies, Blaze and the Zerokidz, who are still in the hunt for a title in their first year as a team.  Sunday's novice and amateur competition saw Runnin' Wild redeem themselves after a frustrating showing at the Myrtle Beach Open by winning yet another 2005 CFOA amateur title at the Cape Fear Classic, with Gridlock Red in second, Gang Related in third and Fat City in fourth overall, keeping that division's championship up for grabs.  Authority won their fourth CFOA event of the season in the novice division, besting Gridlock's novice squad and two Florida teams, CFK and Central Florida Paintball, who both played excellent events representing their home state.
