The FMA Orbium Kit
Sanchez Machine has been making barrels since 1998. To most people, they are an unheard of company, and their barrel kits are even lesser known. But the few that do know Sanchez Machine, know perfection. Alone they are amazing barrels and their users swear by them in an almost cult like fashion. Teaming up with FixMyAngel.com man Robert Moon put it over the top and convinced me to dish out the cash for one of these kits.
Upon arrival of this new barrel system of mine, I already had some high standards set on how it would look and shoot. It came in a nice looking case with the blue SM-1 Orbium 3 logo on the front, matching the color of the barrels I had ordered. Opening the case I was greeted by one of the best looking barrels I had ever seen. It contained three different length tips to create a 12”, 14”, and 16” and had four different inserts to make .684, .689, .693 and .695 sized bores which where one of the points of this custom kit. Based on polls it was made to better suit a paintballer’s needs based on the lengths and bores.
Another point of the custom kit was the anodizing, finished to go with WDP Angel’s coloring. Along with the great color was a toughness to match, having tested this kit on a gravel field and taking a few spills during diving the anno held up perfectly without any scratches. The middle pieces, or “HUB”, brought the whole barrel together, literally. Overall the Orbium 3 logo on the HUB and the milling of the barrel created a very good looking piece to add to your setup. The Wrench and O-rings where the last of the container’s items, adding an increase in comfort in the assembly and disassembly.
Holding the barrel there was an easily noticed difference about it compared to others. It was the lightest 3-piece barrel I had ever held and could definitely compete even with one and two piece barrels. Another signature idea of the Sanchez Machine barrels was the left-handed threading. In most barrel cases it tends to come apart when trying to remove it from the gun, but thanks to this it made taking it off and apart a lot more hassle-free.
I had one last question that this new upgrade of mine had to answer. How does it shoot? The marker it was tested on was my Fly Converted Angel 04 Speed with Diablo Blaze paint and an Intelifed Halo. After airing the gun up and chronoing I had a velocity of 270 fps to satisfy the field limit and my testing needs. Putting my trust in Sanchez Machine and Bob, I jumped straight into a game. All I have to say is this was the best case of ball on ball accuracy I had ever witnessed in a barrel system. This kit not only looked amazing, it shot amazing too. There was a couple cases of broken paint, most likely bad, but even with the breaks the kit shot right through it just as good as when it was cleaned. For the testing I didn’t squeegee or clean it all night of play and mixed with my aggressive style of play the barrel did get quite messy, yet shot with the same accuracy.
As of now the kit comes in several different colors to match the Angel anodizing, although this barrel would look great on any gun. It can be purchased through www.fixmyangel.com for $189.99 and is definitely an upgrade I would recommend for anyone who wants awesome accuracy and looks in one package.
