HORDE WARS 2005
The owners of Fontaine De Tarrieu decided that to develop business and winter season visitors and to attract the corporate market they would organise a paintball weekend which would be able to attract all nationalities. Hence the Horde Wars have been created.
What are the Horde Wars? The idea is based around a series of multiple scenario paintball weekends organized by Simon, Andy and Mike from the property of Fontaine De Tarrieu and 2eggs Solutions, an internationally based advertising and marketing company. This is the first year that the event will be organised, and to celebrate the weekend will be themed. The theme will be based around...
It’s a weekend of large game play between 2 or 4 teams of 50 or more people with smaller scenario fields to be placed at various points across the 140 hectares of land. The Friday arrival and Saturday/Sunday play allows us to enjoy a large area game which also includes mini scenarios.
What are we hoping to achieve with the weekend game? It’s pretty simple. We want people to experience a big ‘open’ game in woodland, orchards, open ground, purpose built streets and buildings and enjoying the evening’s entertainment. We will have 2 teams fighting it out intermingled with small scenario playing.
When and where? Fontaine De Tarrieu is located in Cassagnes which is a small village in southern France. The village of Cassagnes is located in the LOT region and the property site can be visited at www.fdtfrance.com.
The weekend will commence on the 7th of October 2005. Arrival is recommended in the evening if you’re travelling a larger distance, so you are ready for the Saturday 10.30am start. The site can be reached either by road, airplane or train. Pickup for travelling players included in the price of playing.
The Friday evening will continue registration which will finish on Saturday morning around 10am, followed by the commencement of the main event and the smaller scenario plays. The nearest towns for transport are Puy l’eveque, Cahors, Fumel for trains; Bergerac, Toulouse and Bordeaux for flights.
Directions This varies from county to country. If you are based in France, the nearest identifiable population centre is probably Cahors. If you are in northern Spain it’s a hop skip and a jump over the border (*not literally, but pretty close.) Germany is accessable by car and train or airplane and Holland and Belgium are only 8 hours away by car. If you are based in the UK, then its easy and cheap to fly to Bergerac or grab the ferry over and continue overland from Paris, but directions are on the site or will be sent to participants.
It’s a two day event? Sure is, but you could call it a three day event if you include the Friday registration period.
We will play between 10.30am Saturday till around 5.30-6pm in the evening. Further small scenarios will be played with smaller teams on Sunday. The format will be pretty simple: Semi autos and below….no full autos…it's just not fair. We will have smoke canisters, a bit of pyro and some really, really interesting booby traps for the participants….. If it’s a surprise and a laugh your looking for then Fontaine is the place to play your paintball.
Players can arrive at Fontaine de Tarrieu from midday (1200) on Friday and set up camp either in tents, in the main house (limited rooms) or in one of the covered barns on the site. There is also accommodation within 2kms of the site at various chambres d'hote and campsites.
Registration will begin at 12.00 noon on friday. Friday evening will be a BBQ, with Saturday breakfast included in the price, sandwiches are available on Saturday with drinks and a further BBQ on Saturday evening. Again Sunday morning's breakfast is inclusive in the price.
Some of the scenarios will be able to be tested on the Friday for early arrivals so they can stay amused and see the terrain a bit. For the “main event” on saturday we will split the players into two teams
Do I Have to be at the site for 12:00 on Friday? No, as long as you don’t turn up later than 10am on the Saturday you’re still eligible to play.
What happens on Saturday night? After the main game and everyone's back from the woods, it's BBQ time with loads of drink being consumed, great food, entertainment and music. Local bands will be playing and they ain't half bad. Drinks and food are available and the beer is cheap while the food is damn good... The main house will take orders for food and will be open for the sale of sugary treats and soft drinks.
Can I camp? Yes, there is camping available but it's all about getting here first because places will be limited. There are only a few things we ask of campers - Don’t discharge markers in the camping facility or near the main property housing (there are plant pots and large windows around the place…) - Keep the area around your tent clean and tidy and dispose of all rubbish in the bins provided - No fires on the property. We will have a camp fire anyway, so no need for your own If you break these rules you will be kicked off the property and no refunds or other will be discussed.
Is there other local accomodation? There are local hostels, bed and breakfasts, beautiful country estates and other campsites. We can provide a list of accommodation on request.
Site Paint only? Yep, sure is site paint so don’t waste time bringing your own. We have asked sponsors to give us great rates for paint, and there are a few different levels of entry to the weekend. See the cost section at the end of this booklet
Air or CO ? 2 Since we don’t know what each and every one of us is using (and people keep telling us different things) we are able to supply both for the weekend. If we only have a couple of guys who have air then we might just make it a CO weekend or vice versa, but at the moment we are providing both. 2 Your game fee includes unlimited air fills. Be sure your cylinders are in test - if they are out of date they will not be filled.
How many players are expected to turn up? We honestly don’t know, but so far we have had a very positive response from players and we only announced it 5 days ago (at time of press…) So if we’re lucky we would like a total of around 150. This is a big property with ample spaces to play, and pretty good facilities. It all depends on how we do it. We have had to throw a few free invitations out so I we reckon we should get up around 80 people in attendance with no problem… Above that it’s up to you lot to get in touch and book a place!
What can the site handle playerwise? Fontaine de Tarrieu is a 140 hectare property. Yes, you heard it... It's pretty huge. The site includes 3 big houses of 8 bedrooms/ bathrooms type. We have 4 small cottages, a hay barn, a built in chiller for 15 people to get cold in, a few outbuildings, a car parking hut, a swimming pool and a tennis court. We have parking for around 500 cars, so there should be a minimum of fuss fitting everybody in...
Who's who and how big are the teams? We had thought about making it really hard and not having armbands or colours for you, since real war doesn’t usually tell friend from foe, but we thought we would be nice and use either armbands or t-shirts to show the two sides. All players will be given a playing armband or T-shirt to identify their team. This will be worn like a playing top or band on the arm or forehead so everyone knows who you are playing for.
Can I wear fancy dress or a costume? We damn well hope so! There is a prize for the best-dressed player at the event.
How long does the game last? Friday registration will start at 12noon and continue until Saturday morning. The early birds can play a few scenarios to loosen up and test themselves. We will have a players meeting Saturday morning and maps and other items will be handed out as we have 9 collection points to capture.
The main game could last up to 6 hours depending on how good the players are and how they fight. On the other hand a few of the scenarios like our small village or street scenario could last 10 minutes…It depends, but you will probably be playing until some time around 5pm, weather and other factors permitting.
What do I do if I can't fight for that long? There are several locations around the property (and in the game) where you can simply kick your shoes off and get some food, water or coffee. You can return to a home base or a safe base to rest, gas up and fill your pots. With so many people running around it's unlikely to affect play.
Marshalling or Outlaws? We won't have many marshals on the property as it's pretty big and we can't control everyone. The marshals will be at the centre of the property because the street scenarios are there. We expect honesty, gentlemanly conduct; if you get hit, we expect you to stick your hand up and retire to get wiped at a marshalling area or one of the bases. Players may only use markers which are in semi-automatic or single shot modes. Any player found using a ramping mode will be warned, asked to turn the mode off or kicked off the site. Anyone found with a fully automaticmarker will ejected from the site
Are there any prizes? Yes, there will be a raffle and prizes given out. Some are not paintball related: We have a lot of vineyards and speciality food providers in the region who have been kind enough to donate prizes as well as free weekends at local hotels. That said, there will be kit and trophies up for grabs as well. Categories may or may not include: Best dressed Prettiest player (female only and voted by all concerned to be crowned Queen of the Horde!) Worst Dressed….. only funny stuff allowed Best Dive and Acting Scene Idiot of the Day
Talking Turkey (How much does it cost to play?) Package 1 - Local (No camping, Renting Kit) - 110 euros - Entry fee for both days - all the gas they can use - 400 balls - BBQ, Breakfast and Entertainment - Mystery free gift
Package 2 - Travelling (Camping, bring your own kit) - 80 euros - Entry fee for both days - all the gas they can use - 400 balls - BBQ and Entertainment on Saturday night, Breakfast on Sunday morning - Use of camping or barn facilities - Mystery free gift
Do we cater for female players? Yes, of course. Do we encourage female players to come to the event? Please, please and please. The sport needs more women in it as they make the place look nicer, smell nicer and they usually shoot us first anyway. The organizer's wife will be playing and she's only played in one paint ball event so we are pushing for women to participate.
How do I pay? This is the hard part. If reservations are made, they can be made by credit card or advance bank transfer. Payment must be made in full as soon a possible. Once your payment has been received a player’s pass will be issued by email with a number on it. You will require this number to get into the site. We will accept payment by paypal. so you can pay with a credit card and charge it to corporate expenses if you feel it's appropriate. You must request, complete and return a registration form to us by email or you can send an email confirmation to us at either sales@fdtfrance.com or paintballfdt@hotmail.com or write to Horde Paintball Fontaine de Tarrieu Cassagnes 46700 Le Lot France
