CFOA To Possibly Allow Ramping?
The CFOA has enjoyed exponential growth during the 2005 season, and with 2006 around the corner, much speculation is being pondered as to what Larry Motes and Josh Silverman are planning for 2006. One of the more controversial rules in the CFOA is a cap on maximum rate of fire, which is currently set to 15 bps. The rules had specifically banned 'enhanced' modes of fire, but conversations with players who had participated in CFOA events felt pretty strongly that PSP-Compliant ramping was tolerated.
In a conversation with Larry Motes at this year's Free Finale, he hinted at some radical changes to the formatting and rules for the CFOA in 2006. Mr. Motes refused to go any further with details concerning his s eries, but with 2006 around the corner, Sponsorship Mastermind Josh Silverman was willing to answer questions regarding changes coming to the CFOA for the 2006 season. His response follows:
"Last year the CFOA had very specific tests that determined the legality or illegality of every paintball gun that entered our fields of play. These tests did not include checks for ramping, though we did have an official 15 ball per second cap. This was in-effect a tacit approval of ramp, as long as safety rules such as chronograph speeds, rate of fire, "no full auto" and bump tests were strictly observed."
Silverman went on to add:
For 2006 the CFOA will likely make every attempt to conform to internationally-accepted rules of play, including gun rules, and this will likely bring us into line with the PSP, who employ a rate of fire cap and allow ramp, and lead the way towards standardizing rules for international play on every level. For specifics I encourage the media and our valued customers to refer to our updated, 2006 rules which will be released immediately following the holidays, along with our schedule of events."
Mr. Silverman also related that his father is recovering well from Quadruple Bypass surgery, and encouraged everyone to stay tuned to www.thecfoa.com for further information.
