CFOA Announces Dates And Formats For 2006

The CFOA is pleased to provide an outline of what the 2006 season has in store for players and teams across the southeast. The 2006 Season will continue to provide the excellence of CFOA tradition, while stirring excitement for new horizons.

5-Man Tournaments

In 2006, the CFOA will offer seven (7) 5 man events as part of our traditional 5 man league and four (4) dates as part of our Tennessee expansion, each consisting of four (4) divisions. These divisions will be known as beginner, young guns, rookie, and novice. CFOA Paintball

The beginner division will consist of players who have never played a CFOA event in the past. Players will be allowed to compete in three (3) beginner 5 man tournaments before they will either be considered rookie or young guns. Prizes will be given to teams who place at events, but there will be no end of year prize in the beginner division. The young guns division will be for players who turn sixteen (16) after November 16, 2006. Young guns players will also be able to play both rookie and young guns without jeopardizing their status as a young gun. The rookie and novice divisions will be the same as 2005 with the exception that the CFOA will allow one (1) novice player on a rookie team and continues to allow one (1) amateur player on a novice team. There will be no more mixed divisions in the prelims and marker rules will be the same across the league. The only change from 2005 will be raising the balls per second limit to the national standard of 15.1 balls per second.  (64ms between shots)

X-Ball Tournaments

In addition to the traditional 5 man tournaments the CFOA will offer five (5) x-ball events in 2006 each consisting of two (2) divisions. These dates will not conflict with the other CFOA dates. The divisions will be known as advanced x-ball and intermediate x-ball. The divisions will be set up so any player who plays CFOA 5 man will have the opportunity to compete in CFOA x-ball.

Intermediate x-ball will consist of any players who are classified as CFOA beginner, CFOA young guns, CFOA rookie, CFOA novice, and D3 PSP players. Rookie players who play intermediate x-ball will not be reclassified as novice players. The format will be the first team to five (5) points wins or the team with the most points after fifteen (15) minutes. Teams will change sides of the field after three (3) points. Ties will be broken by a sudden death overtime point.  Rosters will consist of a minimum of six (6) and a maximum of nine (9) players, coaches, and staff. Intermediate x-ball teams will be allowed to roster one (1) amateur player as long as they are not ranked D1 in the PSP.

Advanced x-ball will consist of any players who are classified as CFOA novice, CFOA Amateur, D1 PSP, and D2 PSP players. Novice players who play advanced x-ball will not be reclassified as amateur players. The format will be the first team to seven (7) points wins or the team with the most points after fifteen (15) minutes. Teams will change sides of the field after four (4) points. Ties will be broken by a sudden death overtime point.  Rosters will consist of a minimum of six (6) and a maximum of nine (9) players, coaches, and staff. Advanced x-ball teams will be allowed to roster one (1) pro player.

Player Promotion

On top of revamping the divisions we will be implementing a mandatory promotion of players who participated in the league in previous years. Rookie teams from 2005 will be promoted to Novice in 2006 if they had two CFOA appearances that netted their teams a total of 140 seed points. This point total will be configured using each 2005 rookie team’s top two seed points scores according to 2005 CFOA standings.  All players appearing on both team rosters of any team that has 140 points will be promoted individually to the novice division.  Any player who appeared on a novice team which placed in the top three (3) in the end of the year standings in 2005 will be considered an amateur player in 2006.
