Chris Lasoya Teaches Clinic In Georgia

I received a phone call one day from one of my players, “Mike would you like to go with us at the LaSoya clinic in Macon?” I hesitated but I said OK. Come March 4th, team CURE (sister team of team 68 caliber) and me, the coach went for the 3-4 hour trip up to Macon, Georgia.

The Clinic was held at OTP(on target paintball) in Macon, Georgia owned by the husband and wife team Joel and Jolly Pfeil along with their sons who are avid paintball players. The main building of the storChris Lasoya e Looks very classy from the outside and the inside is clean, well organized and has a lot of items in stock for both recball and tournament players alike. The field is located behind the store composing of 3 fully netted  airball fields with 10 acres of woods for recball play. This a field tournament players in the area really needs to check out. See their set up at http://www.ontargetpaintballga.com/ .

As a player of 5 years of competetive paintball, I have my doubts about the lessons I am going to learn about this clinic. But for the cost of 100 dollars for the clinic in which you get a case of paint and a free T-shirt, why not? The clinic started a little bit late due to some delays because Chris made another appearance at another venue nearby before the clinic. As an instructor, Chris was very well spoken, articulate and adjusted his methods according to level of experience he is teaching.

The attendees vary in experience from seasoned paintballers to young kids just getting their toes wet into paintball. LaSoya started the clinic with some conditioning stretches and a run around the field. He then taught the important basic skills any player needs to become good. Skills such as snap shooting, domination, running and gunning, and how to play a bunker was really stressed.

A free meal was also provided by OTP consisting of real Filipino food!! (hey say what you want, I don’t care.) The Chris Lasoyasecond half of the clinic consist of one on one play with Chris and my player, Mike Harris(Tiny) doing the demos before everyone else. There were drills on offense and defense that was taught which is very important for teams to know. The last part of the day consists of a series of 5 on 5’s in which Chris played for each team in rotation. After all is said and done, LaSoya then joined everybody in picture taking and autograph signing.

What did I get from this? A very well taught clinic for a very small price. Chris LaSoya took his time with some kids and did one on one instructions to those who needs it. I even learned a few things he taught me. Team Cure even got a first hand coaching from LaSoya during the 5 on 5’s . Overall, it was a well put together clinic for entry level and novices. I left the place looking back at what’s important to me paintballwise, and I think you still can teach an old goat new tricks.  AS for the rest of team CURE, I saw that each and everyone of them had lots of fun, talking, kidding around and shooting at Chris LaSoya. I just hope that the lessons learned from this experience sinks in to the minds of my team. What next? I think a scrimmage the next day would be in proper order.
