CFOA's Dixie Cup

The CFOA traveled to Atlanta to promote their second five-man event of 2006 March 26 and 27, drawing 128 teams to Classic Paintball.  Located only minutes from downtown Atlanta, Classic’s impressive facility offered four XBall playing fields and plentiful staging room for the hundreds of players, numerous spectators and several vendors who traveled to the competition from across the region.

Cold mornings and windy but sunny weather with temperatures creeping into the fifties greeted attendees at the 2006 CFOA Dixie Cup.  More vendors set up shop at the event than had done so at the league’s inaugural event in March, including National Paintball Supply, Paintball Kingdom, DerDer Productions, Ground Zero Paintball CFOA Paintball(representing Planet Eclipse), Boost Custom Paintball featuring David “the Hopper Man” Cross, Paintball Central with The Matrix Center, PaintballPics.net, the United States Army and Hooters, who also produced the tournament’s player party.  Paintball Central also provided push-button air fills to 4,500psi to the Dixie Cup players.

Surprisingly, the CFOA was able to run the 76 rookie teams that registered to compete at the Dixie Cup in only one day on only four fields and finish well before sunset Saturday.  Accomplishing this by starting at 8 AM instead of the usual starting time of 9, the league explained that while for such a large number of teams they would prefer using at least five fields, at Classic this was simply not possible.  Fields used at the Dixie Cup were, as at all CFOA events, official Sup’Air Ball XBall fields set up in an aggressive layout with a broken snake on one tape and a row of large and small “Dorito” bunkers along the other.  Due to the size of Classic Paintball’s fields, no sideline was utilized on any of the fields used for competition, creating tight boundaries and forcing referees and photographers into shooting lanes.  As always, the CFOA’s fully paid referee staff was used on all fields.

After a finals appearance at the Queen City Masters in March, the Cross Eyed Kids took first place in the rookie division.  The Asheville Assassin Kids managed first place in the Beginner division and Gold Rush won their first novice division event at the Dixie Cup.

The CFOA will return to Charlotte’s Paintball Central Sports Park in April for its next five-man event.  For more information including pictures, scores, schedules, on-line registration, a complete list of sponsors and prizes, visit www.thecfoa.com.
